Default Stamford American School to have innovation centre

Very good potential for D13. Expect to have more expatriats shifting here over the next few years. Most likely these families will stay in Singapore and have their children educated in these international schools. They will be travelling regionally for business as Asia Pacific economy grows. There is no other safer place to bring up their children in Asia Pacific other than Singapore.

Stamford American School to have innovation centre
Trading floor, incubation centre and lectures by business leaders planned
    By Teo Si Jia

COGNITA will be outfitting its Stamford American International School with an innovation centre in the new campus at Upper Serangoon Road.

The education group and school operator said at the school's official opening yesterday that the centre would be "a place of partnership between Stamford's students and the corporate sector".

To be built under Phase II of its campus development, the Cognita Innovation Centre will comprise facilities such as a trading floor and an entrepreneurship and incubation centre. High school students of the campus will be able to make market transactions in real time and develop business or technology ideas with guidance from corporate mentors.

The centre will partner US universities and venture capital firms to conduct research and test ideas for the commercial world. Viable ideas will be developed, and the intellectual property registered and protected.

Business leaders will be invited for physical and virtual lectures in the campus.

Cognita Asia's chief executive Brian Rogove said: "By linking the education of our students with the realities of the commercial world, we are giving students the best possible start on their careers as entrepreneurs and business leaders."

The end of Phase II in 2014 marks the completion of the school's $300 million campus.

The standards of the school's amenities are raised a notch: Its canteen is headed by celebrity chef Emmanuel Stroobant and it has a golfing centre where its students go under the tutelage of a professional. The facilities for its pupils ranging from kindergarten level to Year 12 also include an indoor gymnasium and a fitness centre.

The guest of honour at the school's opening was Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck. US ambassador to Singapore David Adelman was also present.

So cute. Real time floor trading by high school students.

I wonder when we can see real time govt policy making by high school students... (or are we already witnessing this haha)
