if the casino ban singaporeans from going, and is in the southern islands, i dun think most sinkies will care a hoot about it. those pple can jump into the sea, too far to bother us.

anyway, tcss only. dun think it will happen.

You will need hotels, retail malls, huge land space, other tourist attractions, F&B outlet etc.

And JLD masterplan has got all that in place to support such a project.

Whether is will happen or not, will really depends if EDB or STB can managed to secure a mega theme park project without having to use casino as a carrot.
I see MBS everyday. Looks nothing more than a Casino. Genting has a bit more integrated element to it.

a casino license in Singapore is a very valuable assets and government is not going to give it away to an operator to just operate a casino in some southern island because the economic benefit from a stand alone casino will be very limited.

What the government will definitely do it to use the casino license at a bait to catch the big fish, which in IR case will be something like a theme park or MICE, something which can offer a sustainable economic benefits for the country.

some see geylang as a place for makan, some see it as a place for prostitute.

personally I have been to MBS on numerous occasion, for food, kids musical, shopping, museum, exhibition, wedding etc etc but never been to the casino.

assuming its 2017, then 2013 could be the year to make that some kind of announcement because it takes about 3 to 4 years to design and build the IR.

I remember MM Lee was saying that Intergrated resort should be able to generate around 60 to 70% of their revenue from non gaming businesses. For sentosa the criteria was to have an IR cater to family fun, while Marina is for MICE.

So for RWS, the "IR" are retails, hotels F&B and theme park, while for MBS, their "IR" hotel retails F&B and MICE

MBS has Garden by the bay. It is a park that has some themes too.
