    Default Jalan Loyang Besar

We went to Downtown East recently and walked to Pasir Ris beach. We chanced upon this quiet stretch of low-rise pte housing right behind the beach. They are walkable to the beach, DTE, the new mall that it's building there (according to the sign - seems to have a Ferris wheel too), and it's a 5-min drive to Pasir Ris MRT and the White Sands Mall. It's almost a perfect place. So quiet beachside living but near to amenities. Then while driving out from the public carpark, we saw this showflat sign for Bluwaters 2 near to DTE. Went in and was told it will be built at Jalan Loyang Besar, and the cheapest 3-room unit is almost $1m (think it was freehold or 999 - agent said got cheaper ones at about 800k plus but sold out). Any residents staying at that stretch? Is it a nice place?

Bluwaters: I once saw a picture of it, looks modern and nice. There is another one there i think, called Lighthouse, which is a designer condo as well.

This quiet street of low-rise condos has alot of potential. It is probably one of the few places in Singapore that has the potential of a huge upside. It is already by the sea and brand new shopping malls. Many millionaires live in the area.

Saw the one-page colour ad of 'Bluwaters 2' on Saturday. Themed as "Condominium by the Sea". It's very nice but very different kind of facade and appeal from 'Bluwaters' (about 3 minute-walk apart and just TOP). Both condos, together with Lighthouse, the coming JLB (i.e. Jln Loyang Besar) Residences and the soon-to-be launched Costa View and some of the other condos and townhouses lining along this road just opposite Pasir Ris beach add to the charm of this quiet place. One ad on Sat's classified says it is the second Sentosa Cove.

Looks like only 2 townhouses left in the Jalan Loyang Besar estate. All have been en-bloc and turns into condos.

Agree. Its a double edge sword. More development in the area translates to better amenities. At the same time JLB is losing its "ulu feel" which in the first place makes it different from the rest.

Default New Jetty at Pasir Ris

New jetty at Pasir Ris for fish farmers

SINGAPORE - A new jetty at Pasir Ris next year will make it easier for fish farmers to load and unload stock.
This is expected to cut transportation costs for some farmers and reduce overcrowding at the Changi Creek landing point next to Changi Jetty.
The new jetty will be located near the Pasir Ris Beach Park and is expected to be completed by next September.
The proposed design for the structure shows that up to 30 boats can dock there at the same time, but the plan has not been finalised.
When asked, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said it had received feedback from fish farmers about "overcrowding during peak hours and the difficulties in loading and unloading activities at Changi Creek".
Climbing up a ladder to Changi Jetty is the only way for fish farmers in Singapore's eastern waters to legally load and unload supplies and fish stocks that can weigh hundreds of kilograms.
Last year, the Maritime and Port Authority noted that some fish farmers illegally beach their motorised boats at Pasir Ris Beach Park, which may damage the boats and endanger people who use the waters for canoeing and kayaking.
"The (new jetty) site was identified after discussions with the fish farmers and relevant agencies," said the AVA.
Mr Timothy Ng, 64, president of the Fish Farmers Association of Singapore, estimated that the jetty would help about 60 fish farmers in Singapore's eastern waters. "Landing points in Singapore are very limited now. The new jetty will serve the farmers very well," he said.
Under AVA's targets, each coastal fish farm here must produce at least 17 tonnes of fish per half-hectare of space a year, or risk losing its licence.
Currently, the 130 inland and coastal fish farms here are on track to produce 8 per cent of local consumption this year, the AVA said. The goal is to increase this to 15 per cent eventually, to reduce the Republic's reliance on imported fish.
