Does anyone know is there a medical forum where I can seek online advice?
My voice has been hoarse for more than a month already. It started while I was eating some banana chips, then suddenly no voice. Visited 3 western doctors and 2 chinese physicians but still the same. No different. I went to Polyclinic and without checking on my throat, the doctor gave me 3 hospitals to choose, General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng or Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, so I choose TTS for diagnose. She said the specialist will use a tube to go through my nose to see my throat, I was afraid that it might cause some complication, so hopefully that my voice can recover before the appointment date which is next month.

I have no cough and no pain on my throat except when I eat chilli and dried raisins, then I will feel some tickling pain. I have no problem in taking my food too. So don't know what is the cause behind it.

nowadays all hospitals follow SOP, test this negative then proceed to another, they don't care what kind of sickness you have

Laguna, thanks for the link. Maybe I should seek for 2nd opinion.

DMCK, I agree with you because I personally experience such a treatment before.

    1) I had made a new pair of spectacles but I feel so uncomfortable when I put it on, I see rainbow on my glasses under the sunlight and also under a bright lamp pole in the evening and when I looked down on the floor, the floor is floating in front of me like 3D. The spectacle pressed against one side of my nose until so painful that I got headache so frequent. It can see a deep mark on my nose. I went back to the optician and he checked for me again and said that my eyes got problem, asked me to go and check my eyes.

I went to Sengkang Polyclinic, when I stepped into the room, the male doctor without looking at me (kept looking at his computer and type what I said) asked me what's wrong, I told him that my optician said my eyes got problem, might be cataract. Without looking at me again, he asked me which hospital I wanted to go, I told him National Eye Centre, then I asked him, any other hospitals to go, he said no, so I was thinking if no other hospitals, then why he asked me which hospital I wanted to go, funny right? He then printed out the referral letter and passed it to me and asked me to get the nurse to make appointment for me. That's the only time he looked at me.

At the National Eye Centre, the eye specialist helped me to check, no problem with my eyes and and also said that the glasses was ok, degree no problem. After 6 months of wearing and suffering, only few days back, then realised that the "culprit" is the two rubber stoppers on the spectacle that rest on my nose (my sister realised it). It was upside down, OMG, no wonder my nose was so painful and it did have a deep mark on one side of my nose. The thinner part of the rubber stopper should be below and the fatter part should be on top. No one realise it, not even the specialist.

    2) I was told that I have some white patch on my left lung and was referred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to do a CT Scan. The doctor told me to do "something" (not sure what is it called), use the needle to pin into my lung, then took out some tissue to check. I asked him what will happen if the needle pin into my lung, he said the air will come out, water will go in, then need to use another tube to suck out the water or something like that, can't really remember. The risk is 25%. I told him that I will consider first, he said you have to make up your decision fast, not that you want means you can do it now, if you decide later, need to wait very long one. From the way he spoke, as if that he wanted me to go for this operation desperately. So I asked him can I take a picture of my lung result that show patches, he said you take also no use one. I insisted to consider about the "operation", he got no choice, so asked me to do CT scan, half year later, then 9 months, then 1 year and then 2 year to check the progress. 1st half month I went, nine months later I went again, then he told me to come another 9 months later, I told him I thought earlier you said 1 year later, then he said, hmm... then 1 year later but I didn't go back again. I lost the trust in the doctor, is not easy to find a good doctor nowadays, seems like they are trying to persuade you to do operation, just like my friend's friend, her doctor (also TTSH) asked her to go for operation, saying that she left 6 months life only if don't want to operate. She went to seek another doctor's opinion, this doctor was surprised, asked her who said you only have 6 months' life and true enough, she didn't go for operation and she is still alive.

    3) I went to SGH to check on my health, the doctor asked me to go for x-ray, after x-ray, I went back to him and he asked me again what's wrong, then he asked me to go for x-ray again, I told him, I just got my x-ray, he then looked at his computer and said "oh, ok."

You see, from all these experiences, I don't have much confidence going to hospital for check-up, not sure whether will I meet a good doctor or will only meet those doctors who only want patients to go for operation.

Another case. A Chinese Physician from a charity organisation. She prescribed a solution and some tablets for me, I asked her what is this solution for (because I didn't cough), she said, "you very funny leh, you see what, I prescribe what".

Is it nowadays, doctor don't really look or check into details the problem of the patients, what happen if the patients do not really know how to describe their cases, isn't it to be a big problem if wrong medicine is given?

All the doctors you consulted so far that you mentioned below are from the restructured public hospitals? Are they experience doctors or just doctors on duty?

Not so sure, it was referred by Polyclinic and I was told at one of the hospitals that I cannot choose doctor because is subsidized, so I presumed it applied to all hospitals. Later then I realised that the doctor that attended to me at TTS is a relief doctor but 1st and 2nd visit also attended by him.

I experienced the same, suffered from bad knee pain, referred by polyclinic to SGH Specialist clinic, and visited the doctor four months later.
Doctor : how long was the pain
    Me : about 6 months
Doctor : I only see patient whose pain is years
Me : Can you check my knee
Doctor : No, I discharge you

    What can I do?

Are you a private property investor/owner/speculator? Why post medical questions here?

Coffeeshop talk means can talk about anything.

Life's not just about private properties.

A medical incident can lead to loss of properties, or opportunities. Worth discussing.

One more thing, I have missed out to mention. I had a check up at NUH (if I remember correctly, because I went to so many different hospitals for different checkup), the nurse tried to scan my stomach and liver but she couldn't see my liver clearly, make me drink lots and lots of water, still cannot see clearly, then she asked the passer-by doctor to help, just a glance at it, the doctor concluded that I have a "fatty liver". The doctor that attended to me for my check up, tried to make another appointment with another clinic for further clarification, but I didn't go. Next I went to TTSH for my my CT scan (lung), TTSH helped me to scan my lung, digestive system, stomach and liver and the result was shocking, saying that one of my liver is missing, stating that it could be that I have an operation before. Why I didn't know that I have an operation before unless I'm sleeping or when I was a baby, someone took it out for me, OMG.

My friend too have urine problem, his urine has lots of bubbles, and he went for check-up but the result was ok, no problem with the urine. I thought urine has bubbles is no good, might affect the kidney.

You are right, Kelonguni. Heard that one of a rich man had lost all his properties in order to cure his illness. So it will be good if someone have come across a good doctor and can share here.

Ya, hospital seems to have lots of follow-up.

I have a few follow-up cases too, but mine very simple, went for my appointment, sit there, doctor asked question, then can go home already, next appointment same thing again, asked question, then can go off, the 3rd appointment, you are discharged. But problem came back again few months later, I have to go to KKH A&E but the doctor on duty just asked a few questions, then refer to hospital again, the procedure goes on like that again. Without checking anything, just few questions, settled everything, is that a responsible doctor?

When reach the stage to see doctor, even a good one, the battle is already half lost.

The main fight for me is in eating and living healthy. Some money if too stressful to earn, I let others go ahead. Eat well, sleep well, exercise moderately.

    Cover especially medical with insurance.

Yup, health is more important but if health really show some problem, we also hope to get a good doctor.

My friend's son at that time was only 9 years old. He was diagnosed with a hole in the heart when he was born. At the age of 9 years old, he was admitted to hospital for heart operation, everything went on smoothly, looked like he was in the stage of recovery, but this doctor-in-charge was called to Taiwan for reservist. Another doctor took over, heard that the doctor had given over-dosage of the medicine, then my friend's son body started to swell, in the end, "bye to the world".

When we consider about health sleeping is the most important factor in human life.

Sleep occupies one third of our day and is an indispensable part of our daily lives. It relaxes and re-energizes our mind and body. However, many people suffer from lack of sleep due to a lot of different factors. Among of which are stress and a non-conducive sleeping environment.
So i'd suggest you from my personal experience the best sleeping pillow provider in Singapore is Phiten .
