Schocking! Reminiscent of the Shanghai condo collapse... wow yeah really FIRE SALE... down comes the blocks, down comes the price. Wonder who dare to buy the project even if FIRE SALE.
Confirm it is indeed Gilstead 2 from Google Streetview. The landmark blue building in the beginning of the video is Residences @ Evelyn right...

Is the developer trying to save costs by not piling and instead put up blocks to show soil settlement can take the weight of the building?

Does standard house insurance include condo collapse due to whatever reason, including earthquake, shoddy piling etc?
well, my properties are for capital gain and maybe renting in the meantime, so if condo collapse, property owner liable or not if tenants died?

The soil sank before the collapse. Maybe that area to many high-rise pencil thin condos liao - really concrete jungle area and so much construction in Newton/Novena.
Prices may start to 'sink' in this area??

Very lucky that these happen early. So not much expenses involved. Imagine if completed a few stories already.
but seriously, any legal recourse if a small developer cut and run? buyer already paid option fee and progress fees...Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia have a few cases of developer bankrupt before construction finishes.
buyers still have to continue servicing the loan :banghead:

This is the test pile not the actual construction. (No chance to see the video at the moment) BCA will be interviewing the structure PE and the assessor. It’s a 2-way check since the hotel new world collapse. Developer will be very concern and make sure that it is structurally sound from now on.
On the contrary, think this project will be the safest in terms of structure.

Engineers must be half-blind. Reports said the pile of rocks were observed to be slanting few days back :doh:

Tonnes of concrete come crashing down near church

MORE than 100 large concrete slabs from a construction site came toppling down onto Gilstead Road early yesterday morning, startling church-goers attending a morning service nearby.
No one was injured in the incident, which happened just after 8am. But the pile of 1m by 0.5m, 21/2-tonne slabs made the two-lane road impassable.
The vibrations caused by the crashing concrete also led to a gas leak from a nearby pipe. But SP PowerGrid managed to repair the gas valve quickly, and gas supply to the area's residents was not affected.
In a statement, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said the concrete slabs collapsed during a pile load test. Such a test is meant to determine the carrying capacity of a pile, which is the column of wood or steel or concrete driven into the ground to provide support for a structure.

The slabs had been stacked on top of one another to a height of about 12m. It is unclear what caused the incident but the MOM is investigating. All pile load tests at the site have been stopped.
Polytechnic student Josiah Tan, 19, told The Straits Times that he was on his way to the Life Bible-Presbyterian Church that morning when he was told by the construction workers that the road had been cordoned off. The construction site is directly opposite the church.
'I saw the huge bricks tilting at about a 40- to 45-degree angle,' he said. He then tried to find an alternative way to get to church. As he was crossing the road, he heard a loud boom. When he turned to look, he saw workers running across the road, shouting to him: 'Run faster! Run! Run!'
The site contractor, who declined to be named, said that the foreman, who was stationed at the site overnight, had informed him around 7.30am that the concrete blocks appeared unstable. A decision was then made to cordon off the area. He added that the recent bout of rain could have softened the soil.
The church pastor, Reverend Charles Seet, said he heard a loud boom during the service. Service, however, was not disrupted. The church cancelled the remaining services for the day, so as to minimise the risk of anyone getting injured as the slabs were being removed from the road.
Gilstead Road is closed to traffic as the clean-up process is expected to take a few days. Alternative routes have been opened to vehicles.

SINGAPORE: The Manpower Ministry (MOM) has ordered piling work at a Gilstead Road worksite to stop.
The stop order was issued to the contractor, Ryobi-Kiso, two days after a stack of some 100 concrete blocks at the site, off Dunearn Road, collapsed.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has also revoked the Permit to carry out structural works that was issued to the contractor.
Except for recovery work, the contractor will not be able to conduct any further works at the worksite.
Investigations by MOM and BCA into the incident are currently on-going.

Ryobi Kiso shares down 2.7%

SHARES in Ryobi Kiso Holdings dipped slightly yesterday after media reports identified it as the contractor for a site at Gilstead Road where tonnes of stacked concrete slabs toppled on Sunday.

The counter lost half a cent, or 2.7 per cent, to close at 18 cents. It stayed higher at 18.5 cents for seven trading days before this.
A subsidiary of Ryobi Kiso was carrying out a pile load test at the site of an upcoming condominium, Gilstead Two.
The contractor had stacked concrete slabs, weighing 2-1/2 tonnes each, to a height of about 12 metres when the slabs collapsed.
The incident closed the road to traffic and led to a minor gas leak.
Ryobi Kiso yesterday confirmed that the collapse damaged a section of the public road and gas pipes next to the work site. Its insurance policies will cover the damage, it said.
The company also revealed that the project's contract value constitutes around 2 per cent of its net order book value of $81.3 million as at Sept 30 last year.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) are investigating the cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, MOM has ordered Ryobi Kiso to stop all work at the site, and BCA has revoked its permit to carry out building works there.
Ryobi Kiso said that there is no impact on its other project sites. It is working with the authorities in their investigations and will announce material developments, if there are any.
For the first quarter ended Sept 30, Ryobi Kiso posted a revenue of $31 million, up 31 per cent from $23.7 million a year ago.
However, rising costs and intense competition in the construction industry ate into the company's gross profit margin.
Net profit in the first quarter was $3.7 million, down 20 per cent from $4.6 million a year ago.
