SINGAPORE : Mainboard-listed Amara Holdings has announced that it plans to give a $32 million face lift to its shopping mall at 100 Tras Street and re-brand it as "100 AM".

Amara said the additions and alteration works to its existing four-storey Amara Shopping Centre is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2012.

The revamp will add another 22,000 square feet of supermarket space at Basement 1 to the existing lettable space at the mall, it added.

Albert Teo, chief executive of Amara, said that 100 AM will be the only full-fledged shopping centre in the Tanjong Pagar vicinity, strategically positioned to capitalise on the changing demographics and lifestyle of the residents and visitors to the Tanjong Pagar area.

He added: "The changing demographics of the area have created an opportunity for us to embark on the makeover of the shopping centre to cater to inner city living as well as leisure and business travellers.

"This area of the CBD (Central Business District) has displayed much promise and growth with a cluster of high-end residential developments like Icon, Pinnacle and the upcoming Altez, Sky Suites and Keppel Towers redevelopment as well as hotel developments shaping up the Tanjong Pagar precinct."

A TANJONG Pagar shopping mall is set to benefit from a $32 million revamp that will bring it in line with the area's up-and-coming status.

The makeover of the four-storey Amara Shopping Centre - which will see it rebranded as '100 AM' - will result in 22,000 sq ft of its total 130,000 sq ft of lettable space converted for supermarket use.

Touted as the only full-fledged shopping centre in Tanjong Pagar, the mall in Tras Street has secured anchor tenant FairPrice Finest to occupy the additional supermarket space and Koufu Food Court to operate a foodcourt.

New routes leading to the shopping hub are also being constructed to boost access from Enggor Street.

Mr Albert Teo, chief executive officer of mall owner Amara Holdings, said the changing profile of the area will see tourists, residents and office workers drawn to Tanjong Pagar. The mall, he added, was going to address the lifestyle needs of these groups, with food and beverage outlets making up 40 per cent of the mall's tenant mix.

Design features will include innovative ceiling lighting in the atrium and coloured glass 'fins' along the building's facade.

The enhancements are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2012.

The mall will benefit from traffic from the upcoming Guocoland project next to Tanjong Pagar MRT station for example, as well as residential projects like Altez and the redevelopment of Keppel Towers.

CBRE, which has been appointed as the mall's marketing agent, anticipates more varied activities to be injected into the Tanjong Pagar area in the next few years.

CBRE director of retail services Letty Lee said: 'New hotel developments and office buildings will add to its growing residential population as inner city living grows in popularity.'

'As a result, we expect the emergence of more diverse forms of retail trades to meet the dining, entertainment, as well as shopping, demands of an increasingly sophisticated residential population.'
