IMHO, it depends on the confidence of the developers and investors. If the re-zoning is successful with more "proper and clean" commercialise companies, thus reducing the vice activities etc or re-locate them, I think Geylang will have a good "future".

the place is too expensive to leave it to be the next-door spot for brothels...

obviously, the CBD area has expanded over the 50 years... and geylang red-light district has become somewhat of a fringe now, being clustered as RCR.

brothels would be relocated... as the pubs licence are no longer given out in that area...

singapore gov is probably the minority gov in the world that gets things done, because we have a limited land space and we plan future forward...

the PR campaign on the national news, papers, etc, was to signal to the pte homeowners, the triad societies, their resistance is numbered...

the days that geylang is the place to get your cough mixture fix, your unpaid duty-free cigarettes, your legal hookers, your vietnamese-manned gambling tables are numbered...

brothels won't cease operations in singapore altogether, as much as the x'tian zealots like to make a secular society a Mormon-like one... but it should be relocated to one near the larger density of foreign worker dormitories... as foreign menial labourers have a record of sexual assault, probably because of their embedded culture, as observed by the west now only...

In fact, I saw a "large" dormitory at Punggol too when I went to my sister-in-law's house last Sunday. I think it is scattered all over the place, not only the West.

i don't think i stated the location of where the relocation, nor where the region of higher dormitory density is...

anyway, nothing wrong with staying near / next to a dormitory or an urn-processing plant or an old-folks' home...

let's all not be too spoilt... and be realistic about the land size of this island-state.

I always feel that we are lucky to stay in Singapore where we can stay "peacefully". Unlike some other countries, wars etc, pity those people who stay there, everyday stay in fear.

    nothing to pity about...

the westerners pity us, with our lack of benefits and freedom of speech.

For everything, there are pros and cons. If you compare the "good one", we are "lousy" but if you compare the "lousy" one, we are "good". On average, S'pore is already considered quite good. Just like we, human beings, we know how to advise people, don't look down upon yourself, there are people better than you but there are also people who are worst than you.

    You are so playful.

BTW, I am trying to share an article from an artist but couldn't know how to paste the message and portrait here. Topic: You will be shocked when you take a closer look how this artist drew Mr LKY portrait.
In summary, he took 15 hours in a day to write 18,000 words (Lee Kuan Yew) to form the portrait, it is amazing.
