Default How useful are CCTV cameras for condo project?

Any idea how useful CCTV cameras can help guards? If we need to install 9 caremras for a project, is the price of 8K reasonable?
    How about ongoing maintenence costs?

    Thanks,
    Richard

Think MCST has to trust machine (read "CCTV cameras") more than guards!

With CCTV cameras, guards are less likely to "eat snakes" (heard of guards sleeping at night when they are supposed to be on duty and all sort of nonsense in the estate such as guards wooing maids etc)?

Not sure about pricing as depends on quality of DVR and cameras used. Maintenance should be minimal as these can easily last more than 10 years (costs are just electricity costs to keep them running, not much really compared to the costs of the security guards!).

Machines are for collecting evidence in case your guards go astray and start to do things he think he can get away! Never trust the guards 100%! See below:

Condo security guard charged with molesting resident

The 61-year-old had hugged the Japanese school teacher and touched her inappropriately. -AsiaOne

    Sun, Nov 06, 2011
    AsiaOne
SINGAPORE - A condominium security guard was charged on Thursday for allegedly molesting a Japanese kindergarten school teacher living here.
On Feb 10, R. Singaraja, 61, had allegedly hugged the 32-year-old woman and touched her inappropriately at her flat in Kentish Green condo in Oxford Road at about 7.40pm.
Mr Singaraja is currently out on bail, but he will face trial three days from Jan 4 next year, said The Straits Times (ST) report.
ST also reported that the woman had apparently developed a phobia of being alone at home and had to receive psychiatric treatment.
She had come to Singapore late last year with her 37-year-old husband who took up a job as a sales executive.
Two days after the alleged incident, the couple moved out of the flat because of her extreme emotional distress and fear, said the husband. He gave up his job in July and they returned to Japan.
For that, he wants to file a civil lawsuit over the incident for suffering penalties for early termination of the condo lease, and incurring relocation costs, among other things.
Her mental anguish also affected his ability to focus on work and led him to seek psychiatric help as well.
If convicted, Mr Singaraja faces up to two years jail term, or be fined or caned, or both.

Yes. Not all security guards are good. I've seen some old man doing condo security and so skinny that the wind wind will blow him away. Some look like gangster themselves. Many are lazy & didn't even bother to stop visitors.

Many don't do their duties at night and have heard many caught sleeping as Teddy has highlighted.

    Also Read this news below.
And some years back there was a case of a foreigner rape by a condo security. Can't recall which condo and the details. Maybe some of old birds here can still remember.
