Move to aid privatisation of Braddell View

Published on May 15, 2012

THE law governing HUDC estates is to be changed to make it easier for residents of Braddell View to privatise their estate.

A Bill was introduced in Parliament yesterday to give HUDC owners the flexibility to vary the proportion of the fees each flat owner has to pay in connection with privatisation. Previously, the fee had to be divided equally among all owners.

Braddell View was developed in two phases on two separate land leases with different expiry dates.

To harmonise them, the feasible option is to top up the Phase 1 lease, with the payment of a sum, determined by the official Chief Valuer, to the Government, said the HDB in a statement yesterday.

But Phase 2 flat owners may not agree to pay the same amount as Phase 1 owners, it noted.

Hence, the HUDC Housing Estates Bill, which will let the owners decide the share of the premium to be paid by each flat owner in the two phases.

As Braddell View is the last HUDC estate that is yet to be privatised or earmarked for privatisation, no other such estate will be affected by the change, said the HDB.
