Yes agree. In fact, with so much road tax i am paying every year, they should have full shelter / cover for all roads.

Raising the fare so that transport companies can continue to maintain their high profits?

Some thing that I find it hard to accept ..
Ridership increase over the years, in fact burst the intended design . That translate into higher revenue and profit in proportion .

If it is reported that they are running at loss, then they should review their operational model first, instead of conveniently increase fair hike to have a quick fix if they intend to do so...

How much they need to be paid, just leave it to the market force!

    Thanks,

Public transport operators are closely regulated by LTA and fares are controlled by public transport council. There is no market forces, so to speak..

The operators are all public listed companies.

Can look into their annual reports to see if this is BS....

What do you mean by there is no market forces?
All we need is just 4,000 Singaporean bus drivers.
If you pay S$1.5K per month, you cannot get 4,000. You just need to raise the pay.
If you pay S$3.5K per month, maybe you get more than 4,000. That means paying too high.
So the market force will ensure the pay is (my guess) somewhere around S$2k - S2.5K.

If you don't even have faith in market forces, why talking about capitalism?

    Cheers!
    Richard

SMRT has operating cash inflow of about $280m in FY2012. Take all these profits can use them to improve service by a lot and still can definitely reduce fares by 25% with spare change.

Maybe u should also ask for CNY angbao from them to every passenger during CNY. oh not forgetting other festive season too.

Since we are all asking. how abt a red carpet to be extended for every passenger to board the bus with? We defiantly justify to be treated with royalty . After all we pay the bus fare right?
