I think Star is right on. The CMs by MND will likely significantly push spending into other areas, especially cars. Houses and cars are probably the only two big ticket items that some Singaporeans buy. I think Mr Lui will get a big headache. A CM for COE and cars is likely to follow very shortly after COE shoots beyond 100K.

I believe the next posting of Mr Khaw is Minister of Transport. He leaves a trail of impact wherever he goes!

Some people are born to produce s h i t for others
    Some are born to clear other people's s h i t

Both have impact in its own ways

This is a no-brainer. 100k COE is a straight line depreciation which lasts just 10 years. Take your pick

One you can get back but the other you can't get back... However, one allows you to take along to 'show off' but the other can't do that!

100k stamp duty not part of asset... straight away gone day 1.

COE still can get rebate until year 10...

$100k COE for sure. $100k COE here to stay. $100k stamp duty can be removed any time - just a temporay measure. $100k COE at least gets you a nice ride to drive around on a lazy day without having to squeeze MRT or bus and explore more inaccessible part of SG. It's a real improvement to quality of life. $100k stamp duty is for second property that may not even make money.

Life is about enjoyment - not about accumulating material things and so-called "assets". Which one of them bring you greater enjoyment and improve the quality of your life? Then put your money there. I think Singaporeans are very materialistic - and that's why always thinking about spending money on "appreciating assets". Life is about experiences, not about accumulating appreciating assets.

That is very good news. 20-30% downpayment will be prudent. Must make sure to cover loopholes like overtrade and financial rebates.
