Police arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of committing armed robbery at Geylang Bahru on Dec 1, 2013.
The man, who was armed with a penknife, confronted a 33-year-old Chinese woman who was alone in her car at an open carpark, as she was about to drive off.
He demanded that she move to the front passenger seat while he drove the car to the upper deck of a nearby multi-storey carpark.
After parking the car, he demanded for her valuables, including a smart phone, a wrist watch worth about $2,000, ATM cards, a credit card, and $200 and US$200 n cash.
The robber also forced the victim to reveal the PINs to her ATM cards. He then used adhesive tape to tie up the woman before fleeing the scene.
The victim managed to free herself and get help from a passer-by.
Police managed to find the suspect after reviewing recorded CCTV footage. He was arrested along Scotts Road on Wednesday afternoon, at about 3.25pm.
The suspect was performing contractual work in a building at the time of his arrest. Upon searching, police found the victim's ATM cards and credit card on him, and cash $22 and US$1.
He also led police to a unit along Geylang Bahru where the victim's wrist watch was recovered.
The man will be charged on Friday. If convicted, he may be jailed up to 10 years and given a maximum of 12 strokes of the cane.
