Default New private property sales pick up pace but demand still tepid

    http://www.todayonline.com/singapore...nd-still-tepid

SINGAPORE — New private property sales picked up pace in January after falling to a near 5-year low the previous month, but demand remained tepid as developers held back from launching new projects and buyers generally stayed on the sidelines as various measures that have cooled the market continued to have an impact.
A total of 565 new private homes were sold in January, according to today’s (Feb 17) figures released by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. That was better than the 259 which were sold in December, but a sharp fall from the 2028 units that were snapped up in January last year.

The low sales numbers in the last 2 months reflect the cautious mood among bother buyers and developers.
Some potential buyers appear to be waiting for prices to soften while developers are also reluctant to launch new property developments at a time when sentiment is soft.
That mindset was reflected by the fact that only 549 units were launched in the month, a sharp fall from the 1814 units in January 2013.
