Exclamation Hawker Centres - Not enough in the suburbs in the North

I was at Pek Kio Hawker Centre and Seletar Hills Hawker Centre. Rustic, affordable with quality cum heritage.

Pek Kio's pricing is lower than that of Chong Pang..... Pek Kio is closer to City Centre yet pricing is lower.

So many hawker centres in the central and city area but so few in the North.

If only such quality and heritage of these old hawker centres can be moved to the North where population is going to burst!

long overdue and just one is not enough. some existing neighbourhood cluster already way over crowded and with so many btos and new housing coming up. around the same area. obviously planning or no planning is all screwed up

    Er Lee Bee Wah:

(Translation: Just now, Second Minister Ms Grace Fu mentioned that the new hawker centres will be completed on time. I would like to ask whether the new hawker centre at Yishun could be completed ahead of the scheduled 2015, as three BTO projects will be completed in 2014 and many new residents will be moving in.)

Response by Second Minister Grace Fu:

    感谢李议员的问题。我们当然非常了解议员在这方面的心情,非常期盼新的小贩中心能够尽快的完成。环境局也是带着同样的心情,现在是日夜赶工,尽快把工程完成。当然,现在大家也知道,我们在建筑方面受到人口、人手的控制,对我们的整个建筑业带来一些紧张的情况。在尽可能的情况下,我们会尽快的把小贩中心,把美味可口、价廉物美的事物带给义顺的居民。
(Translation: Thank you for the question. Of course, we very much understand the MP’s anticipation of the completion of the hawker centre. NEA shares the same sentiments, and it is now working day and night to try to complete the construction as soon as possible. However, as everyone knows, we are now limited by controls over manpower, which have brought about some pressures in the construction industry. As far as possible, we will try to expedite the hawker centre, as well as the cheap and good food it offers, to Yishun residents.)

even coffeeshop food as far away as Sembawang is getting very expansive, comparing the price and the portion and ingredients given.and with increasing population, definitely need at least 2more hawker centers for the estates.

Looking forward to more hawker centres, I hope some of the treasured hawker gems in the RCR will relocate to Yishun..... which I believe will happen.....

Come come come, Yishun population going to burst.

The purpose of this driveway is because Carpark Y45 (Blk 343-351 Yishun Ave 11) is group together with car par Y46 (Blk 351-359 Yishun Ring Road) and car park Y47 (Blk 360-367 Yishun Ring Road). This is to allow season ticket holders of car park Y45 who are not able to secure parking lots at Y45 to park at Y46 and Y47 using the driveway.

The proposed new hawker centre will have its own car park within the vicinity of the hawker centre.

As from what I heard regarding of the hawker centre is still in planning stage. We have no news from the advisor yet. Of course if there is any news about the upcoming hawker centre, advisor will definitely announce to the residents.

For the coffee shop crowded issue, I will forward it to the NEA for their necessary action and follow up.

The new centre to be built in Yishun is in the design stage and details on the conditions of application, types of trade and rental rates of stalls are still being worked out. The centre is expected to be completed by 2017 and will be located at the junction of Yishun Ave 11 and Yishun Ring Road. We ask for your understanding and patience for the plans to be announced when they are finalised. More details will be made known publicly when ready.

Check out SuperPan western food stall at Block 732 Yishun Ave 5..... black pepper sauce for chicken chop is good.

Rest of the food not bad as well. The style is more hip than the usual Western food stalls.

Tried Fish and Chips and Chicken cutley which are not bad as well.

Prices are reasonable too. Going to try the Sirloin Steak next time.
